ISO22000 Food Safety Management System Certification
ISO 22000, full name Food Safety Management System Standard. It is both a guidance standard describing the requirements for a food safety management system and a basis for certification and registration of organizations involved in food production, handling, and supply. It applies to all organizations in the food chain that wish to establish a system to ensure food safety, regardless of their size, type, or the products they provide.
I. Scope of Application
Organizations directly involved in the food chain:
1.Agricultural product growers, feed producers, food manufacturers (e.g., meat, bakery, beverages, etc.)
2.Food retailers, catering service providers, distribution service providers
3.Cleaning, transportation, warehousing, and logistics enterprises
Indirectly related industries:
1.Producers of food packaging materials, additives, etc.
2.Suppliers of agrochemical products (pesticides, veterinary drugs)
3.Food equipment manufacturers and maintenance service providers
Core coverage areas:
Every link of the entire supply chain is applicable, from farm cultivation to food processing, transportation, storage, and finally to the consumer end.
II. Documents Required for Food Safety Management System Certification
1.Application for Food Safety Management System Certification;
2.Administrative license documents as required by laws and regulations (Business License / QS Certificate / Health Permit);
3.Food safety management documents;
4.Production, processing or service process flow chart, operational prerequisite programs and HACCP plan for the product applying for certification;
5.List of relevant laws, regulations, standards and specifications complied with during production, processing or service; if enterprise standards are implemented for the product, provide a copy of the product standard text stamped with the filing seal of the local government standardization administrative department;
6.Self-declaration of commitment to comply with laws and regulations, certification body requirements, and authenticity of the materials provided;
7.Relevant evidence and self-declaration that the product meets hygiene and safety requirements;
8.List of production and processing equipment and list of inspection equipment;
9.Plant layout plan.
III. Validity Period of ISO22000 Certification Certificate
The validity period of an ISO22000 certification certificate is generally three years. This means that within three years after obtaining the certification, an enterprise can publicly demonstrate that it meets the requirements of the ISO22000 standard, thereby enhancing consumers‘ confidence in its food safety management.
IV. Periodic Surveillance Audits
Although the validity period of an ISO22000 certification certificate is three years, this does not mean that enterprises can relax the maintenance of their food safety management system during this period. To ensure the continuous effective operation of the system, the certification body will conduct periodic surveillance audits within the validity period of the certificate. These audits aim to verify whether the enterprise still complies with the requirements of the ISO22000 standard, whether food safety risks have been effectively controlled, and whether necessary updates and improvements have been made to the system. The frequency of surveillance audits generally depends on the specific circumstances of the enterprise and the requirements of the certification body, but is typically conducted at least once a year.
V. Re-Certification Audit
When an ISO22000 certification certificate is about to expire, the enterprise needs to undergo a re-certification audit. The re-certification audit is a comprehensive assessment of the enterprise‘s food safety management system to determine whether the enterprise still meets the requirements of the ISO22000 standard. This audit process is similar to the initial certification, but places greater emphasis on evaluating the enterprise‘s continual improvement and the stability of system operation. Only by successfully passing the re-certification audit can the enterprise obtain a new certification certificate and continue to maintain its ISO22000 certification qualification.
VI. Benefits of Food Safety Management System Certification
1.Improve the level of food safety assurance
ISO22000 system certification helps enterprises establish a comprehensive food safety management system, effectively identify and control potential hazards in the food production process, reduce food safety risks, and improve product quality and safety levels.
2.Enhance corporate image
By obtaining ISO22000 system certification, enterprises can demonstrate to consumers, government regulators, and business partners their commitment to food safety, thereby strengthening their market credibility and competitiveness.
3.Reduce food safety incidents
Establishing an ISO22000 system helps enterprises prevent and reduce the occurrence of food safety incidents, lower the risk of product recalls and product liability claims, and protect consumers‘ health and safety.
4.Improve production efficiency
Through ISO22000 system certification, enterprises can standardize and optimize production processes, strengthen internal management and control, and through continuous improvement, enhance production efficiency and economic benefits.
